The program for the new town of Lille-Est gave rise to Villeneuve d'Ascq, which has now become the leading university center in the region with 50,000 students passing through it. Cradle of the world's first automatic driverless metro, Villeneuve-d'Ascq is nicknamed "the green technopolis". There is indeed a strong presence of businesses and numerous research centers, the scientific and literary campuses of the University of Lille; many major schools; and a very large number of laboratories and research centers, all in a very airy and green space.
The Ville Neuve collection pays homage to these new buildings constructed from the 1970s which began to integrate notions of ecology into construction and experiments on “grouped individual” housing which would also be called “horizontal collective”. It was at the same time that cellular brick appeared. This terracotta structural brick is a more durable alternative to the concrete block previously used.
Cut from a honeycomb brick then enameled, the Ville Neuve collection is composed of a tray and two pots, creating a mini city with contemporary architecture on a table, a desk, in a kitchen or even a bathroom.
